Dispute with Cingular Wireless cell company

One of our fellow members recently had a dispute with AT&T Wireless who is now cingular wireless, this is what the member states happened: In 2003 the member's phone number was ported out to Nextel by AT&T without his knowledge. Upon contacting AT&T about this they stated a mistake had been made and they would retrieve his number, after two months the number was finally retrieved. I an attempt to compensate the member for the inconvenience AT&T stated they would give him additional use minutes on his account he accepted this which gave him a total of 900 free minutes on the account. This member also was receiving free nights and weekends nights beginning at 7pm on the same account. Well to the member's surprise in May of 2005 he got a phone bill from cingular for over $200.00, the minutes and nights and weekends had not been applied. He states they had not been applied in a few months but he had not noticed this due to limited use of the phone.

Upon contacting Cingular they initially stated the plan had been changed, but then decided to tell the member that he never had this type of plan. Several attempts were made to attempt to explain this to several people on the phone about the incident which occurred and resulted in the above amenities but were not heard by anyone we  spoke to. The member did ask Cingular to cancel is phone agreement  if they would not honor the agreement  but was told he would have to pay a large fee to cancel the agreement. Cingular was asked if they would  mail a copy of the agreement they state the member signed, they said they would mail same but going into the 4th week it has not arrived.

Several attempts were made to contact a person in the Cingular legal department or a supervisor who would have the authority to discuses and make a resolution to this issue but we were given the run around and were never able to speak to anyone.  This matter is now in the legal system, but we will keep you posted as to what the outcome is.

If you have had issues with Cingular Wireless please contact us and let us know what your situation is and if it was resolved.

Tips for signing a Cell Phone Contract

Our first suggestion is not to sign a contract at all. Just purchase the service.  We know that most companies try to encourage you to accept a contract, for their benefit,  in Cingular's case two years.

Before you  sign find out  what you are getting for this commitment , check to see weather the benefit  of a commitment  is of actual value to you, or does it just sound good.

Compare the price of what is being offered with and without a contract,

Should you sign a contract, sign in person and have all the facts included before you sign.

Make sure you understand the contents of the contract and know the conditions of any changes to be made in the future by either party.

Contact the Company as soon as you notice any changes in your service contract.

Compare as many  companies as you can before signing with a particular one, talk to friends to see how their service has been, have they had problems with the cell phone Co, if so what type.

Remember this is your money and you will pay a monthly charge for the length of this contract.

Make sure there is a clause for non performance of the company in your contract, if you don't pay believe me they will come after you so hold them accountable and get what you are paying for.

Finally if you wish to cancel a valid contract early most companies charge a fee in (Cingular's case $170.00) weigh the cost, sometimes it may be more cost efficient to just pay the fee and be done with that company. Remember if you feel you have been wronged by a company and can not get a satisfactory resolution from that company you may contact drivnfree.com and we will attempt to assist.
